Jeanne M. Crockett, 100, of Richmond and formerly of Norfolk, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Born in New Jersey, November 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Allie G. and Gertrude Oeckler Maney.
Jeanne spent her early years in Rose Valley, PA and graduated in 1943 from Nether Providence High School in Wallingford, PA. She joined the US Navy during World War II and was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia. After discharge, she attended Franklin School of Arts and Science graduating as a medical technologist and x-ray technician. Jeanne worked as a medical technologist specializing in hematology until her retirement from the Norfolk Health Department. A competitive swimmer in her early years, she never lost her enjoyment of being in a pool or spending time at the ocean. Flowers were her passion, and she always looked forward to beautifying her yard in the spring. She was dedicated to her family and took joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hughes and husband Kent Hughes, grandchildren Jamie Hughes (Lindsey), Kristen Wolfe (Mike), great-grandchildren Declan Hughes, Emma Hughes, Owen Hughes, Farrah Wolfe, and Charlee Wolfe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James M. Crockett Jr., her brother Robert Maney and her sister, Virginia Coggeshall.
The family would like to extend a special thank you Bon Secours Hospice and the Community Hospice House whose staff demonstrated unsurpassed compassion and caring.
At Jeanne’s request, the family will hold a private service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project and Bon Secours Hospice.
