Michael "Mike" Kwamane Henson

d. March 27, 2025

Michael "Mike" Kwamane Henson of Charlottesville, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on March 26, 2025. Michael was just 34 years old at the time, and his family is devastated by this loss.

Michael was born in Charlottesville, VA on March 28, 1990, to Broadus Henson, Sr. and the late Sylvia Vaughan Henson; he was his parent’s second child. He graduated from Charlottesville High School in June 2008, and shortly after, he began his work at the Carmike Cinemas movie theater. Upon the closure of the movie theater, he obtained his job as a Maintenance worker at Walmart in late 2013, where he remained until his passing.

Above everything, Michael had an exceptionally large space in his heart for his sister, Olivia, and loved his nieces and nephews most of all.

Michael was quite the comedian to those who knew him well, and no matter where he worked or what he did, everyone loved him, and he will always be remembered. The one thing he was most passionate about was the WWE; although he knew it was staged, he cherished watching them since he was a child and loved walking around wearing his WWE "title belts". He was also a HUGE fan of the LA Lakers and the late Kobe Bryant.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Vaughan Henson; his brother, Broadus Mitchell Henson, Jr.; his maternal grandparents, George and Hazel Vaughan; his paternal grandparents, Broadus and Barbara Henson; his aunt Maggie Loving; his aunt Irene Vaughan Carter; his uncle William “Bug” Vaughan; his aunt Kathy Vaughan Carter; his cousin James “Jimmy” Vaughan; his aunt Clara Eubanks; his uncle Howard “Glenn” Carey; and his long-time best friend, Harry Bowen.

Michael is survived by many family members and close friends. He is survived by his father, Broadus Henson Sr. of Paintbank, VA; his sister, Olivia (Jamal) Bowles with nephews Octavion and Xzayvion Booker, Michael Bowles Jr. of Palmyra, VA, nieces Malayah Bowles of Palmyra, VA and Jamira Bowles of Madison, VA; his sister Alysha Carter, with nephew Jeremiah Denny and niece Ariyah Carter of Fredrick, MD; his former sister-in-law Jessica Orsolini Johnson, with niece Ciara Henson and nephew Christian Henson of Palmyra, VA; his sister Aleania (Jamar) Cutchin of Charlottesville, VA; his sister Alvita (Aubrey) Hughes of Lynchburg, VA; his aunt Lillie Carter of Roseland, VA; his aunt Linda Carey of Charlottesville, VA; his Godmother, Allison Carter of Gaithersburg, MD, who was like a second mother to him; and a host of additional cousins, family, and friends.

A funeral service for Michael will be held on Saturday, 04/05/2025 at 2:00PM at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, located at 7661 Patrick Henry Hwy, Roseland, VA 22967.
