Samuel A. Bryant III, “Al” as many called him, 84, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025. Born in Lynchburg, VA, July 14, 1941, he was the son of the late Samuel A. Bryant II and Alice T. Bryant.
Al grew up in rural Nelson County in a farming community. He attended school in Nelson County, Amherst Co., and graduated from Fairfax County High School. He worked for over fifty years in the heavy- duty truck industry for Western Branch Diesel as a Detroit Diesel engine engineer, Truck Enterprises Dealerships and finally Central Motor Company as a Kenworth & GMC Truck Salesman. Al and Lynda raised their three children Sam, Christa and Shawn between Central Virginia, Annapolis, Maryland and Northern Virginia for many years. His passion for work and helping others was always evident by his generosity to many people and organizations. He simply shared what he had with others and made people feel comfortable. Warrenton, VA was their home for over thirty years. Al enjoyed serving his community of Amherst in his later years by volunteering for Meals on Wheels by delivering food and company to many. NRA, National Republican Party, and HCCA President were a few of his passions.
Al was a true patriot who loved and served the United States of America on more than one front and frequently carried and reviewed the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence on his person.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Lynda Wood Bryant; sons, Samuel A. Bryant, IV (Susan), of Amherst, VA, and Shawn A. Bryant of Bluffton, SC; a daughter, Christa L. Bauserman of Culpepper, VA; grandchildren, Kristina B. Watts (Ryan) of Amherst, VA, and Jonathan A. Bryant (Chanler Marcus) of Amherst VA; sister, Karen Bryant of Fairfax, Va; niece, Arielle Bryant, and a host of many special nieces and nephews that helped Al and Lynda along their way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Lee Bryant Gleason, and Linda Kaye Bryant- Adams, and an infant daughter, Carie Ayers Bryant.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by Rev. John Campbell with burial to follow in Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
