Virginia Ann Massie Makielski

Virginia Ann Massie Makielski, 82, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at her residence. Born June 2, 1942, in Nelson County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Elmo Willard Massie, Sr. and the late Lucy Lawhorne Massie and was previously married to the late Robert Edward Makielski.

Virginia was a retired accounting clerk for the Burlington Air Freight where she served 30 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Piney River Baptist Church. Virginia loved to crochet, sew, read and give back to her community. She was a member of the Elks Lodge 2866 Mandarin/St. Johns Jacksonville, Florida for 15 years. She was a loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by a son, James Dale Gossett; her daughter, Theresa Ann Gossett, and a grandson, Zachary Garcia.

Virginia is survived by a son, Pat Gossett; two siblings, Thomas Massie and Carroll Massie and his wife, Linda; a sister-in-law, Shirley Massie; a brother-in-law, Dick Mitchell; grandchildren, Dawn Park, Joseph Howard, Justin Howard and Matthew Howard, and a host of other loving family and friends. Virginia also enjoyed time with family members such as Betty Bumgarner, Mark Massie and Dakota Massie.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, 7661 Patrick Henry Hwy., Roseland, VA 22967, 434-277-5194, with Dr. Dave Cash officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery, Roseland, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
